Slopscale is a fork of [headscale](https://github.com/juanfont/headscale), the open source, self-hosted
implementation of the Tailscale control server. It keeps headscale's core and adds an admin console, features, speed
and fixes.

## What it does

- Runs a tailnet for the stock Tailscale clients: registration, MagicDNS, [DNS](/slopscale/ref/dns), [routes](/slopscale/ref/routes),
  [DERP relays](/slopscale/ref/derp), [Tailscale SSH](/slopscale/ref/ssh-recording), [Serve](/slopscale/ref/https-certificates),
  [Funnel](/slopscale/ref/funnel), [Services](/slopscale/ref/services), [app connectors](/slopscale/ref/apps), [tailnet lock](/slopscale/ref/tailnet-lock)
  and [identity tokens](/slopscale/ref/identity-tokens).
- Signs users in through [OpenID Connect](/slopscale/ref/oidc), gives each a [role](/slopscale/ref/roles), and puts an administrator
  between a new machine or user and the tailnet with [approval](/slopscale/ref/approval).
- Controls access with a [policy file](/slopscale/ref/policy), or without one through [groups and access rules](/slopscale/ref/access-control),
  [networks](/slopscale/ref/networks), [temporary access](/slopscale/ref/temporary-access) and [node sharing](/slopscale/ref/sharing), narrowed by
  [device posture](/slopscale/ref/device-trust).
- Tells you what happened: an [audit log](/slopscale/ref/audit), [webhooks](/slopscale/ref/webhooks) and notifications,
  [log streaming](/slopscale/ref/log-streaming) to a SIEM, [SSH session recording](/slopscale/ref/ssh-recording) and a
  [traffic monitor](/slopscale/ref/traffic) of what each machine sends through your gateways.
- Manages machines over the connection they already hold: [updates, health, diagnostics and preferences](/slopscale/ref/device-management).
- Speaks the [Tailscale API](/slopscale/ref/api#tailscale-compatible-api), so the Terraform provider and the Kubernetes
  operator work unchanged, next to its own [REST API](/slopscale/ref/api#rest-api) and CLI.

## Design goal

Slopscale runs a _single_ Tailscale network (tailnet) for a person, a lab or a small organisation, with everything an
operator needs in one binary: the control server, the CLI and the [admin console](/slopscale/ref/console).
